It's Been a While!

Hi friends! It's been way too long. We've been keeping busy with lots of projects and another round of upholstery classes (more on that soon).  The big news of the day is that we just completed two custom pieces for our lovely friend, Annie Chase.  Annie came to us with a chair and a washstand and gave us total creative freedom to do whatever our hearts desired. We had a lot of fun with her pieces and here are the results!

We found the fabric at the Etsy store KainKain, based out of Jakarta, Indonesia.  The store's owner, Jenny, was such a pleasure to work with and even set up a custom listing for us that was the perfect size/color for our chair. Be sure to check out her shop -- amazing embroidery skills!

  1. Love the simplicity. What type of stripper did you use?

  2. I love the chair. Perfect simplicity. Also love the black canvas flats in the shoe box. Wonder where those are from.

  3. Kate so -- We'll have to check the label to find out which stripper brand it was. We can tell you that it was one of the chemically-based types. We've found that while messy and toxic, they really do the best job. Some of the more eco-friendly brands we've tried have only partially gotten the job done, and ending up taking way more time/applications than we wanted to get into.

There's actually a really good article on Design Sponge right now about stripping furniture: http://www.designspongeonline.com/2010/07/before-and-after-basics-stripping-furniture.html

Hope that helps! We'll get back to you on the brand!

  4. Absolutely love this make-under. It is spot on. How long have you guys been in the furniture refinishing business? Are you teaching upholstery classes? I am just completely one at the Eliot School in JP and now just have to figure out how to complete the cushion...
