If you have a small place, the number one thing I recommend is investing in a storage bed. I bought this from a local store that sells unfinished pieces of pine furniture. I was able to bargain with the guy to get the floor model with 4 drawers on each side, and it ended up being pretty inexpensive and totally worth it. I patched up the rough parts, painted it, and now it's the most functional and practical piece I have in my home.
